Bye week grades: wide receivers

By Matt Fortuna

Grade: B

Summary: Good, not great, unless we're just talking about Michael Floyd, who has been everything Notre Dame hoped for and then some in catching 53 passes for 639 yards and four touchdowns through the first six games of his senior season. But the drop-off after Floyd is noticeable, and if it wasn't for the breakout performance of tight end Tyler Eifert, it would surely stick out more.
T.J. Jones has been a solid threat, grabbing 21 catches for 229 yards and three touchdowns, and he is only a sophomore, one who should continue to grow. Jones' numbers are actually not as good as Theo Riddick's, as Riddick has 24 catches for 236 yards and three scores himself. But much more was expected of Riddick coming into the season, and his on-again, off-again performances have left many scratching their heads, though everything seemed to finally come together for him against Air Force. After those three and Eifert, however, the next-best receiver is running back Cierre Wood, with 14 catches for 92 yards.

The backups: Robby Toma and John Goodman have just two catches each, and Toma in particular is a guy the staff should try to get on the field more, as he is someone who showed big-play capability last seaosn in accounting for four plays of at least 20 yards.
