Mizzou commit flips to Notre Dame

By Tom VanHaaren

When Notre Dame targets a Midwest prospect its success rate of landing that target is typically high. The Fighting Irish proved that again on Wednesday.

Defensive end Jhonathon Williams (Berrien Springs, Mich./Berrien Springs) flipped his pledge from Missouri to Notre Dame after mulling over a recent offer from the Irish.

"I really appreciate everything Missouri has done, and I respect them so much," Williams said via text message. "But at this point in time, it would be in my family's best interest for me to stay closer to home."

Williams had been committed to Missouri for quite some time, but the three-star defensive end lives roughly 30 minutes from South Bend and is familiar with the area.

He had started to pick up major interest after getting offers from Notre Dame, Michigan and Washington in recent weeks. Despite his father being a Michigan fan, the Notre Dame offer was the one that intrigued him the most.

Williams took a visit to Notre Dame and made his decision shortly after. He is commmit No. 20 for the Irish in the 2014 class and gives Notre Dame 10 commitments on defense.
