What to watch: Week 13 at Stanford
By Matt Fortuna
Here's what to keep an eye on Saturday when No. 22 Notre Dame and No. 6 Stanford square off:
Airing it out:Tommy Rees has thrown 30 or more times in eight of 11 games this season, and this week should be no different. Stanford's rush defense is fifth in the country, and Notre Dame's ground attack will be all the more difficult to establish without Jonas Gray to complement Cierre Wood, who is backed up by a pair of unproven freshmen.
Watch the tight ends:Few teams utilize their tight ends the way Stanford does. The Cardinal use three of them, and they all are 6-feet-6 or taller. In short, if a defensive back finds himself one-on-one, watch out, because the Cardinal also have a pretty good player throwing the ball in Andrew Luck.
... speaking of which: There probably is not a compliment Luck has not received yet. The likely top NFL draft pick and possible Heisman Trophy winner is playing in what is likely his final home game of the season. In addition, his coach, David Shaw, made a passionate case for his quarterback's Heisman chances Tuesday, and no one would be surprised if the signal caller went out with a bang this weekend.
