Visit sways 4-star LB Deeb to choose Irish

By Derek Tyson

Notre Dame picked up commitment No. 16 on Friday as four-star inside linebacker Michael Deeb (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) gave his pledge to the Fighting Irish. The 6-foot-2, 238-pound prospect chose Notre Dame after camping in South Bend over the weekend.

American Heritage coach Jeff Dellenbach said a lot that went in to Deeb's decision to choose Notre Dame.

"He went up there and had a great experience. I think he saw it as a great opportunity as far as academics, high-caliber football and obviously the spiritual side," Dellenbach said. "That part of Notre Dame is very impressive. He just see's it as a real good fit for himself, and I don't think anyone could argue with that. He's very excited."

Deeb, who also held offers from Florida State, Duke, Wake Forest, Penn State and West Virginia among others, was not planning to commit early, but after his experience at Notre Dame decided to pull the trigger.

"He was telling himself he was not going to commit early," Dellenbach said. "He was taking his time and waiting through the whole thing. He came back from Notre Dame, sat down and thought about it and decided this was the place for him."

Dellenbach says Notre Dame is getting an old-school type linebacker in Deeb, who is ranked as the No. 17 inside linebacker in the country.

"Michael is just one of those kids that there is a lot to like," Dellenbach said. "There's really nothing wrong with the way he comes to play. He's sort of a throwback, old-school kind of guy. He has great work ethic, he gives you everything he has. He has a toughness that not a lot of guys have at this stage."

With Deeb's commitment, Notre Dame now has 13 four-star commitments. The Fighting Irish have the 10th-ranked class in the country.
