We all know that Alabama is the defending national champion, and that the Tide are going for their third crown in four years … and that they are looking to make it seven straight SEC schools on top.

What other streaks are at stake?

A lot. Here are a few:
  • Nick Saban would be just the third coach to win four national titles.
  • Alabama would be the first program to repeat as BCS champions.
  • A Tide win would mark four straight national titles for the state of Alabama. (Auburn, 2010)

But, as our friends at ESPN Stats and Info note, Notre Dame has ended similar historic runs before.
Notre Dame may be better suited than anyone else to end this historic streak by the SEC.

The Irish have ended three NCAA-record winning streaks during their athletics history, not to mention a 25-game winning streak by Florida State baseball in 2002 and a 112-game winning streak in home conference games by UConn women’s basketball in 2005.

There are plenty of other goodies here.
