Tyler Eifert is a finalist for the Mackey Award, given annually to the nation's top tight end.
The junior leads all FBS tight ends in receptions this season with 53. His 634 receiving yards rank second. He has five touchdowns as well, trailing only Ken MacAfee's six (1977) for the most touchdowns by a Notre Dame tight end in one season.
Eifert is also just one catch shy of MacAfee's school record for tight ends in a season, and he is tied with John Carlson (2006) for second-most receiving yards in one season by an Irish tight end. MacAfee's 797 yards in 1997 are the most.
Clemson’s Dwayne Allen and Georgia's Orson Charles are the other finalists for the Mackey Award, which will be presented live on ESPNU at the Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show at 8 p.m. ET on Dec. 8.
