As expected, the Raiders signed offensive lineman Jack Cornell off the practice squad Saturday to add depth to a depleted unit. In the corresponding roster move, Oakland waived defensive lineman Brian Sanford.
The addition of Cornell likely means that neither right tackle Tony Pashos (hip) nor left guard/center Andre Gurode (quad) will play against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Pashos and Gurode, both of whom were officially listed as doubtful, were injured in Oakland’s game at Kansas City on Oct. 13, before the Raiders’ bye.
Cornell, meanwhile, was originally signed to the Raiders’ practice squad on Sept. 11 before being called up on Oct. 5, appearing in Oakland’s 27-17 defeat of San Diego on Oct. 6. He was waived the next day before being re-signed to the practice squad on Oct. 9.
He spent the 2012 season on the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad.
Sanford appeared in four games with the Raiders, starting against Washington, and had seven tackles.
The Raiders, though, should have some O-line help against Pittsburgh as center Stefen Wisniewski, who sprained his right knee against Washington on Sept. 29, is on track to play. Also, rookie tackle Menelik Watson (calf) tweeted Saturday he was on the mend.
“Feels good to be working out again,” he tweeted. “My time will come.”
