Raiders rookie update

Let's take a look at the Raiders' draft picks heading in the final preseason game:

First round

Khalil Mack: The No. 5 overall pick had his best preseason game at Green Bay. He showed good pressure and he had an interception. The team thinks he can be a difference maker and I agree.

Second round

Derek Carr: The quarterback was kept out the Green Bay as a precaution. He looked decent early in the preseason. He is far from a finished product, but the Raiders have high hopes for him. If starter Matt Schaub struggles or is injured, it's not out of the question that Carr plays some as a rookie.

Third round

Gabe Jackson: The road-grading guard has looked good. The coaches love his power. I can see him playing a lot of a rookie.

Fourth round

Justin Ellis: The defensive tackle missed two weeks with a concussion. But the Raiders like him and he should be in the regular-season rotation.

Keith McGill: The big cornerback has dealt with injuries. He may not be ready to help right away and he's a project, but hopes are high for this specimen.

Seventh round

TJ Carrie: He has been a standout. Carrie has been getting work with the first team. Interesting player to watch develop this year. Could be a great pick.

Shelby Harris: The coaches like the versatility of this defensive lineman. He has a chance to stick.

Jonathan Dowling: Dowling (who was the player the Raiders took with the pick they got in the Terrelle Pryor trade with Seattle) has flashed some. He's likely on bubble.
