Raiders claim DE Mayowa from Seattle

The Oakland Raiders have traded out one young front-seven defensive player for another.

They claimed defensive end Benson Mayowa, who was cut Saturday, from the Seattle Seahawks. To make room for Mayowa, the Raiders cut linebacker Kaelin Burnett, who played in 22 games for Oakland the past two seasons.

Mayowa played in two games for Seattle, but he was on the 53-man roster all season as an undrafted rookie from Idaho. He has big upside but is still considered a project.

Meanwhile, safety Brandian Ross was claimed by the Miami Dolphins. He started 13 games for the Raiders last season but was an expected cut.

The Raiders were putting together their practice squad Sunday. It will likely be announced Monday, when the team begins to practice in earnest for Sunday’s season opener at the New York Jets.
