Rod Martin to light Al Davis Torch
By Paul Gutierrez
ALAMEDA, Calif. – Former Oakland Raiders linebacker Rod Martin will light the Al Davis Torch at the O.co Coliseum Sunday before the Raiders play host to the Kansas City Chiefs, ESPN.com has learned.
Martin was many observers’ choice for Super Bowl XV MVP after he intercepted Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski three times in the Raiders’ 27-10 victory.
He was also a key member of the Raiders’ Super Bowl XVIII championship team and was a two-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro selection after being drafted out of USC in the 12th round of the 1977 NFL draft.
The right outside linebacker in the Raiders’ 3-4 defense, Martin played for the Raiders from 1977-88 and had 33½ career sacks and 14 interceptions, with four touchdowns.
Martin had six sacks and four interceptions, with two pick-sixes, in 1983 and added 11 sacks with two picks and a TD in 1984.
