On stage ... California

PASADENA, Calif. -- Some quick hits from media day.

  • Coach Jeff Tedford with LB Mike Mohamed. The Bears were picked seventh in the media poll after finishing tied for fifth in 2009.
  • Tedford pointed out that QB Kevin Riley is the conference leader in TD passes, wins and starts.
  • As for defense, "We need to get better in pass defense." He said they're still in a 3-4 with their new coordinator (Clancy Pendergast) but the scheme is "a little more multiple."
  • Tedford: "It used to be eight wins was good ... but that's not enough any more. We have a burning desire to go to the Rose Bowl."
  • Mohamed on USC NCAA sanctions: "I definitely feel for the players."
  • NY trip: "I was a proponent of it ... it was a first-class trip all the way."
  • On divisions: "I do hope it works out that we play the Southern California teams every year."
