PASADENA, Calif. -- Some quick hits from media day.
- Coach Chip Kelly with Brandon Bair. Oregon was picked first in the media poll after winning the conference in 2009.
- Kelly on losing his starting quarterback and the competition between Nate Costa and Darron Thomas: "We've got two quality players who will battle it out and we'll name a starter a week before our first game."
- Kelly was asked about the "rumor" that the Ducks have switched from a 4-3 defense to a "hybrid 3-4": "We haven't switched our defense. I don't know why that keeps coming up." (By the way, Kelly made this point in a very animated way to me on the flight from New York to Los Angeles when I told him it was a frequent mailbag item).
- Bair on the Ducks defense not getting as much credit as the offense: "All that matters to me is we're successful."
- Bair on USC's NCAA sanctions: "I don't think it matters that they are on probation."
- Kelly on being picked first: "Preseason rankings don't mean anything to us."
