ASU can play with Oregon

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The early impression here: Arizona State can play with Oregon.

The Ducks lead 14-7 early in the second quarter -- a pick-six from John Boyett being the difference -- but the Sun Devils are driving.

A key possession: Oregon got the ball on the Sun Devils 34 but went backwards and were forced to punt.

Obviously, the Ducks can explode at any time. But this feels like the first time this season the Ducks have played a team that can run with them and match them physically.

And, again, Arizona State is not the team they were the previous two seasons. This is a much improved bunch, particularly on offense.

And just like that as I'm typing... Steven Threet connects with Mike Willie to cap an 85-yard TD drive. It's tied 14-14.

Game on.
