UCLA survived and avoided a monumental upset versus Washington State.
It just wore down the Cougars: see 437 yards rushing.
There will be plenty of "what ifs" for the Cougs. It looked like they had taken a 35-28 lead early in the fourth, but a review of an apparent touchdown pass was ruled down at the 1-yard line. And so first-and-goal at the 1-yard line would turn into a goal line stand for the Bruins.
A 99-yard drive later -- a drive that included Coleman going for 73 yards -- and UCLA went up for good.
A silver lining for Washington State? It was a competitive performance. And Tuel was 20-of-37 for 311 yards with two TDs and no interceptions.
The big question: Is this a step forward toward being competitive on a weekly basis, or does it take another bite out of a team's confidence and motivation?
Meanwhile, UCLA's visit to California next weekend might set the ultimate trajectory of both team's seasons and bowl hopes.
