If Arizona beats Arizona State on Thursday, the Wildcats are going to the Alamo Bowl -- assuming that Stanford is invited to a BCS bowl game, which is highly likely -- Ryan Finley of the Arizona Daily Star reports.
But if the Wildcats lose to the Sun Devils, and Washington beats Washington State in the Apple Cup, the Alamo Bowl will take the Huskies over the Wildcats, thereby sending Arizona to a second consecutive date in the Holiday Bowl.
If the No. 23 Wildcats beat the Sun Devils, they will finish the regular season 8-4 and will be ranked. If they lose, they will be 7-5 and carrying a four-game losing streak into the postseason, which doesn't charm bowl executives.
Though the Huskies lost by 30 at Arizona on Oct. 23 and would only finish 6-6 with a win over the Cougars, they would be heading into the postseason riding a three-game winning streak. And quarterback Jake Locker would generate plenty of media attention as his disappointing senior season is discussed and NFL prospects are debated.
Both the Alamo Bowl and Holiday Bowl match the Pac-10 and Big 12. In ESPN.com's latest bowl projections, either Nebraska or Oklahoma State are headed to the Alamo Bowl, and Texas A&M or Missouri to the Holiday Bowl.
