USC, despite NCAA sanctions, appears to be making a late surge in recruiting, and this weekend it came at Stanford's expense.
The Trojans lured two previously committed players away from the Cardinal over the weekend: running back Amir Carlisle (Sunnyvale, Calif./The King's Academy) and linebacker Anthony Sarao (Absecon, N.J./Absecon). You can read about Carlisle here and Sarao here from Greg Biggins reports.
Biggins further reported USC "took over pole position for elite athlete Marqise Lee (Gardena, Calif./Serra)."
Both Carlisle and Sarao have been committed to Stanford for a long time -- Carlisle since his sophomore year.
While neither player says so directly, it's not unfair to wonder if Jim Harbaugh's departure to the San Francisco 49ers has made the Cardinal's previously highly rated recruiting class vulnerable to poaching.
