San Diego State dominated Washington State in the second half, dumping the Cougars 42-24.
The Aztecs outgained the Cougars 379 yards to 159 in the second half and came back from a 17-14 deficit at the break. In fact, WSU jumped ahead 24-14 before San Diego State scored 28 unanswered points.
The Cougars finished with four turnovers, including two second-half interceptions from quarterback Marshall Lobbestael.
It was reasonable to see this game as critical to the Cougars bowl hopes. At 2-1, they now need to win four conference games to earn bowl eligibility.
The Cougs had been flying high. This is a setback, particularly considering how good things looked early in the third quarter.
They will be tested going forward. It's probably a good thing they have a bye this weekend.
