California has found a way to take the pressure off quarterback Zach Maynard: Run the ball and dominate on defense.

And Washington State coach Paul Wulff's fortunes appear to be flagging.

The Bears owned the Cougars 23-zip in the first half. They outgained the Cougs 240 yards to 55. They outrushed them 134 to minus-15.

So we've got the Good Bears one week after the Bad Bears got pushed around by UCLA.

Maynard, who threw four interceptions against the Bruins, is 9 of 14 for 106 yards with a TD. His counterpart, Marshall Lobbestael, is just 8 of 19 for 70 yards.

A Bears win moves them one game closer to bowl eligibility.

A Cougars loss moves it one step closer to finding a new coach.
