There are a lot of rumors -- none of them particularly good -- about the status of Arizona tight end Rob Gronkowski, who's yet to practice or play due to a back problem.

Gronkowski is not with the Wildcats in Iowa.

Speaking through a team spokesperson, coach Mike Stoops wouldn't comment. He will provide an update either after the game on Saturday or during his Monday press conference.

The issues are fairly straight forward.

Either Gronkowski, a junior, will continue on his present path -- trying to get better through treatment so he can play this season or he could opt to redshirt. He could perhaps have surgery, if that is a corrective option.

There also is the issue of whether Gronkowski would opt to enter the NFL draft, even if he doesn't play this season. While missing a year with a back injury certainly won't help his prospects, the 6-foot-6, 265-pound Gronkowski has plenty of impressive film and likely would be a standout at the combine.

Of course, he could come back in 2010, produce as expected, and play himself into the top half of the 2011 draft.
