Arizona sophomore quarterback Nick Foles will make his first career start at Oregon State on Saturday, replacing fellow sophomore Matt Scott, who started the first three games.

“Nick deserves an opportunity to show what he can do,” coach Mike Stoops said at a Monday news conference.

Scott only completed 4 of 14 passes for 50 yards with an interception in the Wildcats 27-17 loss at Iowa. Foles came off the bench to complete 6 of 11 for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Stoops said that Scott, who's a good runner, likely will be a part of the game plan and should play in the first half of the Pac-10 opener for both teams.

Stoops also announced that tight end Rob Gronkowski will have back surgery this week. He's out for the season.

Further, Stoops said that true freshman wide receiver Terrence Miller likely will see his first action at Oregon State. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Miller could provide a physical presence the passing game will be missing without Gronkowski.
