Oregon State and Nicholls State is going to happen after all.
The season opener for both schools was postponed because of extreme weather conditions from Hurricane Isaac, and the Colonels couldn't travel to the Sept. 1 contest in Corvallis, Ore. But the schools were able to reschedule the game for Dec. 1 at 11:30 a.m. PT. The game will be shown on the Pac-12 Network.
This is very good news for Oregon State. Following the Beavers' 10-7 win against No. 13 Wisconsin last week, hopes are high the Beavers will be playing in the postseason. And while we're not ready to declare a sure-thing victory for the Beavers in this game -- especially with what happened against an FCS team last year -- we'll say there is a very good chance that Oregon State wins.
Since it will be the last game of the year for Oregon State -- most believe at this point the Beavers will either already be bowl eligible or on the bubble. A win could help push them into a higher-profile game or just get them into the postseason. Either way, it's as close to a free win as the Beavers are going to get. And those don't come around too often, especially in December.
There is one condition though, where the game wouldn't happen. If Oregon State reaches the Pac-12 championship game or Nicholls State qualifies for the NCAA FCS playoff, the game will be called off and the contract will be null and void. Nicholls State fell 9-3 to South Alabama last week, so the Beavers making the title game is probably the likelier scenario.
