Pac-12 remains third in conference rankings

The Big 12 owns a slight lead over the SEC in the ESPN Stats & Information’s Conference Power Rankings, while the Pac-12 remains in third place.

The Pac-12 is 12.5 points behind the SEC, but it remains well ahead of the ACC, which lags by 27.7 points.

The Pac-12 and SEC both have six ranked teams at present, but the SEC has five in the top 10. The Big 12 has five ranked teams.

There could be some movement in the rankings this weekend, as noted:

Next weekend has five ranked matchups with the potential to shake up the rankings. Four of the top ten teams in the AP Poll are playing each other as the (4) LSU Tigers head to (10) Gainesville to face the Florida Gators and the(5) Georgia Bulldogs take on (6) the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Additionally the Big 12 (West Virginia Mountaineers at Texas Longhorns), Big Ten (Nebraska Cornhuskers at Ohio State Buckeyes) and Pac-12 (Washington Huskies at Oregon Ducks) each have a ranked matchup on their schedules.

One thing that is lacking in these rankings is a better measure of quality nonconference wins. The best win for the Big 12 is over Miami (Kansas State). The Pac-12 has wins over Wisconsin (Oregon State), Nebraska (UCLA), Oklahoma State (Arizona) and BYU (Utah). The SEC has wins over Michigan (Alabama), Arizona State (Missouri) and Washington (LSU).
