California 28, Utah 24: You never know which Cal team will show up, but seeing that the Bears are coming off an embarrassing and confounding blowout loss at Washington, why not assume they will again swing wildly and finish strong against a good Utah team?
Emerald Bowl, Saturday, 8 p.m. (ET) ESPN
USC 30, Boston College 17: All the pre-bowl talk has been about USC coming out flat. That might motivate the Trojans after the indifferent way they finished the season. Another key: A number of starters, particularly on defense, have been playing hurt much of the season. They will be well-rested. And there's this: The Trojans are a lot more talented than the Eagles.
