Report: USC contacts Boise State's Petersen

USC has reached out to Boise State coach Chris Petersen about the Trojans coaching vacancy, the LA Daily News reported.

Hiring the highly respected Petersen would be a big coup for the Trojans, but the bright lights, big city atmosphere that surrounds USC might not appeal to him.

Petersen, who is a stunning 49-4 in four seasons leading the Broncos -- a record that includes a pair of Fiesta Bowl victories -- recently signed a five-year contract extension with Boise State.

A Boise State spokesperson emailed this to ESPN.com's Graham Watson: "Coach Petersen is out of town today and unavailable. Also, Coach Petersen, and the University, normally does not comment on these type of reports."
