Good Cal is back. Bad Washington State is, too.

The confounding Bears, a week after getting poleaxed by UCLA, whipped Washington State 30-7, making the Cougars look like the 2008-09 vintage, instead of the improved crew that looked ready to save coach Paul Wulff's job.

Cal outgained the Cougars 411-252. Isi Sofele rushed for 138 of the Bears' 288 yards rushing.

Embattled Bears QB Zach Maynard played fairly well but he was injured late in the game and replaced by Allan Bridgford.

California (5-4, 2-4) needs one win to become bowl eligible. It plays host to Oregon State on Saturday.

Washington State (3-6, 1-5) needs to win its final three games to become bowl eligible. It plays host to Arizona State on Saturday.
