Woods, a sophomore and All-America candidate who leads the Pac-12 with 11 touchdown receptions, had just two catches for 5 yards last week against Washington. Limited by ankle and shoulder injuries, he was mostly a decoy. He missed practice Wednesday, and coach Lane Kiffin didn't sound optimistic.
From the Orange County Register:
“He’s going the wrong direction,” Kiffin said. “He’s not getting better. Hopefully this (sitting out practice) will help. If he can’t go this week … hopefully he’ll be back close to full speed for UCLA.”
If Woods is out, Brice Butler is No. 2 on the depth chart behind him. He has 11 catches this year. Woods has 92.
No question Woods is quarterback Matt Barkley's favorite target.
Still, while losing Woods would be a blow, the Trojans' passing game wouldn't be crippled. For one, Marqise Lee has come on over the second half of the season. He's the Trojans' second-leading receiver with 52 receptions.
