Statistics after the first week of the season don't mean much. But that doesn' mean we can't take a look.

Pass efficiency (number is national rank)

8. Taylor Kelly, Arizona State

9. Marcus Mariota, Oregon

15. Matt Barkley, USC

28. Brett Hundley, UCLA

Note: Three new QBs obviously gave their coaches what the most wanted: Efficiency.

Rushing offense

4. UCLA, 343 yards

11. Arizona State, 305

13. Oregon, 297

25. Arizona, 237

Note: Arizona ranked 114th in the nation in rushing last year with 94.5 yards per game.

Total offense

3. UCLA, 646 yards

6. Arizona, 624

8. Oregon, 605

15. Arizona State, 554

Note: Last year at Arizona State, Bruins offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone threw the ball all over the place. He apparently is as comfortable running the ball as passing it.

Total defense

3. Utah, 114 yards

19. Arizona State, 237

22. USC, 254

Note: The Trojans defense, despite missing two starters up front, played well against Hawaii, though the Warriors offensive line featured four new starters.

Sacks

1. UCLA, 6

5. USC, 5

10. Washington, 4

20. Colorado, 3

Note: UCLA had 14 sacks all last season.

Rushing

3. Johnathan Franklin, UCLA, 214 yards

13. Ka'Deem Carey, Arizona, 147

Note: Both these guys could put up big numbers this year.

Sacks

3 (tie). Usua Amanam, Stanford, 2

3. Chidera Uzo-Diribe, Colorado, 2

3. Travis Long, Washington State, 2

14. Marquis Flowers, Arizona, 1.5

Note: Flowers converted to linebacker from safety in the preseason. Arizona had just 10 total sacks last year.

Tackles for a loss

1. USC, 12

1. California, 12

11. Stanford, 10

17. Arizona State, 9

24. UCLA, 8

24. Arizona, 8

Note: It was feast or famine for California as it yielded 220 rushing yards in its lost to Nevada.
