Here's a quick look at the Pac-12 night games.
No. 25 BYU (2-0) at Utah (1-1) 10 p.m., ESPN2: Utah leads the series 55-34-4, although the Cougars don’t recognize six games (split equally 3-3) when it was known as the Brigham Young Academy. The Utes have won seven of the past 10 games with the Cougars, including a 54-10 victory in Provo last year. Utah has won four of the past five contests in Salt Lake City. With QB Jordan Wynn forced to retire due to recurrent shoulder injuries, Jon Hays and freshman Travis Wilson will get the call.
South Carolina State (1-1) at No. 24 Arizona (2-0) 10:30 p.m. Pac-12 Network: First meeting. The Wildcats are trying for their first five-game winning streak since 1998, when they finished 12-1. South Carolina State is 0-9 all time vs current members of the FBS, getting outscored by a combined total of 319-60 (average loss margin: 28.8 PPG).
Houston (0-2) at No. 22 UCLA (2-0) 10:30 p.m. Pac-12 Network: Series is tied 3-3, with the Cougars winning 38-34 last year. But that was with Case Keenum at quarterback and Kevin Sumlin as coach. The Cougars have lost to Texas State and Louisiana Tech. UCLA RB Johnathan Franklin had 217 rushing yards on 26 attempts in UCLA’s upset of Nebraska. Franklin’s 215.5 rushing yards per game leads FBS this season and is more than 90 teams. For the season, Franklin leads FBS with six runs that gained 20 yards or more and is one of two players with two 60-plus yard touchdown runs. Houston QB David Piland threw 77 passes against Louisiana Tech. UCLA has eight sacks so far this season (tied for seventh in FBS), a far better pace than last season, when the team finished with 14 sacks (tied for 112th) and didn’t get its eighth sack until the eighth game of the season.
