Osweiler will start at quarterback for Arizona State

Arizona State's true freshman quarterback Brock Osweiler will make his first career start in a difficult place even for a veteran quarterback to succeed: Oregon's Autzen Stadium.

Though coach Dennis Erickson said there would be open competition at the position this week, Osweiler may have eclipsed senior Danny Sullivan by default. The Arizona Republic reported that Sullivan didn't practice Wednesday because of an injury to his right biceps.

Osweiler, who has seen significant action this season, replaced Sullivan in the third quarter of the Sun Devils' 14-9 loss to USC and he led the offense on an 80-yard scoring drive, which he capped with a 23-yard touchdown pass.

The Sun Devils (4-5, 2-4) have lost three in a row and need two victories in their final three games to earn bowl eligibility.
