It appears that Oregon may take a page from the Texas staff management playbook in an effort to retain superstar offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.

According to the Eugene Register-Guard, "negotiations are underway to keep Kelly at Oregon as an assistant, and perhaps as the eventual successor to Mike Bellotti."

Kelly has been touted as a top candidate for the vacant head coaching job at Syracuse.

Texas two weeks ago named defensive coordinator Will Muschamp its designated head coach who will replace Mack Brown when he retires.

This from the Register-Guard:

The timetable for an announcement, or for Kelly's promotion to head coach, is uncertain. There is been speculation that such a plan could also involve Bellotti assuming the athletic director position after current AD Pat Kilkenny steps down.

A media conference call with Kilkenny, UO president Dave Frohnmayer and two others - presumably Bellotti and Kelly - has been scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Monday

In his two years at Oregon, the Ducks have led the Pac-10 in total and scoring offense. Kelly has worked wonders with the Ducks quarterbacks, first Dennis Dixon last year, now Jeremiah Masoli this season.
