Pac-10 race update: Week 11

By Ted Miller

Buckle up Oregon. You are headed into uncharted territory.

Time for our quick Monday review of the conference race. You can view the Pac-10 standings here.

The Ducks are now the only team that controls their own destiny in the Pac-10. If they win out, they not only win the Pac-10, they play for the national title, which they have never won before.

Further, even if Oregon loses a game, it still will go to the Rose Bowl, no matter what anyone else does. If Stanford and Oregon were both 11-1, the Ducks own the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Oregon is at California this weekend. It plays host to Arizona on Nov. 26, the day after Thanksgiving. It concludes its season at Oregon State on Dec. 4.

As for Stanford -- and assuming Oregon takes care of business -- if it wins out, it will finish alone in second. If a non-AQ team -- TCU or Boise State -- ends up in the national title game, Stanford then would represent the Pac-10 in the Rose Bowl.

If Stanford wins out but the Rose Bowl is forced to pick a non-AQ team -- TCU or Boise State -- then the Cardinal would be in the hunt for an at-large BCS bowl berth, but could end up in the Alamo Bowl.

The best way to handle that, Stanford, is to go ahead and win out and then see what happens (I think your odds are pretty favorable for a good outcome).
