Pac-10 Power Rankings: Week 12

By Ted Miller

» Power Rankings: ACC | Big 12 | Big East | Big Ten | Pac-10 | SEC | Non-AQ

If you don't like where you are in the power rankings, play better.

1. Oregon: That's two weeks in a row when the Ducks didn't have their "A-game." Still, they showed in the 15-13 win at California that they are capable also of finding ways to win instead of just always overwhelming foes.

2. Stanford: Not unlike Oregon, Stanford's high-powered offense struggled at Arizona State on Saturday. And, not unlike Oregon, the defense stepped up until the offense struck a decisive blow in the fourth quarter.

3. USC: After losing three of four and inspiring some to wonder if USC would pack it in, the Trojans have showed some grit during back-to-back wins over the Arizona schools. A 10-win season now seems possible, which would give Lane Kiffin's critics a sandwich made with ham and a generous slathering of shut up.

4. Arizona: The Arizona defense has sprung a leak against the run. It has 11 days to fix it before the Wildcats head to top-ranked Oregon.

5. California: Watching the Bears against Oregon, it was difficult to see the team that lost 48-14 to USC and 35-7 to Oregon State. Why can't that focused, motivated team that plays fast and hard show up every week?

6. UCLA: Can the Bruins finish strong, win two of three and earn bowl eligibility? You get the feeling a lot will be determined by the visit to Washington on Thursday.

7. Arizona State: Stanford handed the Sun Devils their fourth defeat by four or fewer points. Will this "close but yet so far" season lead to better things in 2011?

8. Washington: The Huskies have been blown out in three consecutive games. They are coming off a bye week. Can they reverse the course and make a statement at home versus UCLA?

9. Washington State: The Cougars have emerged from the basement, scratching their eyes at the burst of sunlight that appears after wins. Just think: The Cougars blew out an Oregon State team on the road that won at Arizona.

10. Oregon State: This is mostly a symbolic position -- the Beavers have won three Pac-10 games after all -- but is there any more miserable program in the conference this week? The answer is no.
