Poll: Who'll be the Pac-12 sack king?
By Ted Miller
This week, we took a look at the best pass-rushers returning in the Pac-12 in 2012. It was a strong crew.
Quarterbacks likely will be looking over their shoulders this season. But our question is this: Who will lead the Pac-12 in sacks in 2012?
Will it be Stanford's Chase Thomas, who tied for second in the conference with Washington's Josh Shirley with 8.5 sacks in 2011.
Or will it be Shirley? Shirley had a great spring and looks ready to take the next step as a sophomore.
Oregon's Dion Jordan might be a good choice. Like Thomas, he earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2011, recording 7.5 sacks in the process.
What about Oregon State's Scott Crichton who had six sacks and 14.5 tackles for a loss as a redshirt freshman in 2011? What might he do for an encore?
But it doesn't have to be a young gun: What about Washington State's Travis Long, a four-year starter who might benefit from moving from defensive end to outside linebacker?
It wouldn't be surprising if any -- or even more than one -- ended up with double-digit sacks. But who will get the most?
