Oregon still No. 2 in both polls
By Ted Miller
What do the coaches have against Oregon State?
Unbeaten Oregon State moved up to eighth in the AP poll on Sunday, but it's ranked 11th in the coaches' poll, behind five teams with a loss.
And, of course, the coaches' poll is the one that will count when the BCS standings are released Sunday evening.
Oregon remains No. 2 behind Alabama in both polls. Just about every projection has the Crimson Tide and Ducks ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the BCS standings.
USC is ninth with the coaches and 11th in the AP poll. As for the Trojans moving into the "best one-loss team" category, they are behind three teams in the coaches' poll -- LSU, Oklahoma and South Carolina -- that also have losses.
Stanford is 23rd with the coaches and 22nd with the AP. The coaches ranked Arizona State 24th, giving the Pac-12 five ranked teams in that poll.
The AP has the Sun Devils at 26th, the top team among the "others receiving votes."
The Sun Devils, of course, can move up significantly if they upset Oregon when the Ducks visit Tempe on Thursday.
Washington and Arizona both got votes in the AP poll.
