Arizona State's defense took a big hit this week with the announcement that linebacker Gerald Munns is done for the year while he deals with undisclosed personal issues.
Coach Dennis Erickson said Tuesday during the Pac-10 conference call that Munns, a junior from Queen Creek, Ariz., wouldn't play at California this weekend. After practice, it came out that Munns wouldn't play again in 2008.
Munns was the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week after he recorded a team-high seven tackles, five solo, including a tackle for loss and an interception againt Stanford.
Senior Morris Wooten will replace Munns, with junior Mike Nixon and true freshman Shelly Lyons providing depth. Wooten was suspended for the first three games, but played well against Georgia, leading the Sun Devils with eight tackles.
