Some quick hits that got overlooked during the midseason reviews.
  • Four Pac-10 players were among the 20 quarterfinalists for the annual Lott Trophy: USC safety Taylor Mays, Arizona State linebacker Mike Nixon, UCLA defensive tackle Brian Price and UCLA cornerback Alterraun Verner.
  • Six Pac-10 players made The Sporting News' midseason All-American team: Mays, Stanford running Toby Gerhart, USC offensive guard Jeff Byers, USC linebacker Chris Galippo, UCLA kicker Kai Forbath and Stanford kicker returner Chris Owusu.
  • Galippo is among 16 semifinalists for the Butkus Award.
  • USC quarterback Matt Barkley was named the O’Brien Quarterback Award’s Quarterback of the Week. Barkley passed for 380 yards and two touchdowns in the Trojans 34-27 win at Notre Dame.
  • USC tight end Anthony McCoy was named John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The senior recorded five receptions for 153 yards and set up two touchdowns and a field goal in a 34-27 victory over Notre Dame. His yardage was the most by a tight end in a single game in USC history.
