A weekly examination of the Eagles’ ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 25 | Last Week: 17 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
The Philadelphia Eagles' 17-3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys didn’t have as much impact on ESPN’s weekly Power Rankings as it did on the NFC East race. The loss, their franchise-record ninth in a row at home, dropped the Eagles a full game behind the Cowboys but just two spots in the rankings. There are a couple of explanations for that.
The first, of course, is that so many other teams deserve to be ranked below the 3-4 Eagles.
But the second is that, in spite of a terrible performance by quarterback Nick Foles, there was reason to believe the Eagles have improved. Their defense was more than respectable, holding Tony Romo and company to 17 points. If Michael Vick can revitalize the offense Sunday against the 29th-ranked Giants, the defensive strides should give the Eagles a chance to win most weeks.
