Philadelphia Eagles inside linebacker DeMeco Ryans was fined $21,000 by the NFL for the hit that injured San Diego wide receiver Malcom Floyd Sunday.

Floyd lay motionless for about 10 minutes before being taken off the field on a stretcher. He was briefly hospitalized, but flew home on the Chargers' team plan after the game.

The fine, first reported by Pro Football Talk, was for striking a defenseless receiver in the head. It was a tough play. Floyd was trying to catch a Philip Rivers pass while Eagles safety Nate Allen held him from behind. Ryans approached from the front and hit Floyd. It appeared that Floyd ducked his head just as Ryans arrived, and the impact drove Floyd's head down into his neck.
