Originally from the Chicago metropolitan area, Indians 2B Jason Kipnis, also known as "Kip," attended the University of Kentucky and then Arizona State. While at ASU, he played second base and all the outfield positions. In the 2008 season, he was named the Pac-10 Conference Newcomer of the Year. The near year, he was the Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year, a Pac-10 Conference All-Star outfielder and a first-team All-American outfielder.

The Indians drafted Kipnis in the second round of the 2009 draft. He quickly worked his way up the system, representing Cleveland in the 2011 All-Star Futures Game. He made his big league debut just a few weeks later, on July 22. He made a splash right off the bat, logging four consecutive home run games that August.

Because he tends to get his uniform dirty, Kipnis' teammates affectionately call him "Dirtbag." Manager Manny Acta once described him as "a blue-collar, dirtbag, run-through-a-wall, relentless type of guy."

What question are you asked most by the media?

"Is spring training different coming as the starter as opposed to fighting to get on the team?’"

Who is the most media-savvy athlete you’ve been around?

Travis Hafner. He knows what he wants to say. He’s been there for a while, so he knows the deal.

What do you wish you had more time for?

The things I enjoy in summer: golfing, going boating, being out on the water.

Describe a perfect off day in Cleveland.

Sleep in, wake up, get the grill going (I usually have Vinny Pestano, my roommate, do it), put on some music, and toss a football or a Frisbee while we’re grilling some steaks.

What was the last thing you Googled?

Directions to a golf course. But I’m a bogey golfer. I play because I enjoy it.

What song is currently stuck in your head?

Calvin Harris' “Feel So Close.”

What is the music you would be most embarrassed to admit to listening to?

Broadway stuff. Musicals. I know a lot of the songs to “Wicked” and “Hairspray” and all those.

What was your best Halloween costume?

I was Popeye the Sailor one time. I had the big stuffed costume with the big, fake muscles. It was nice to pretend for a night.

What’s the movie you’ve seen more than any other.

“Dumb and Dumber.” I've watched it at least 15 times, because it’s always on TV.

What is your hidden talent?

I can juggle. I can do three [baseballs]. If that counts.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Things can only affect you if you let them, if you give them permission to. That's from my ASU coach, Pat Murphy.

Worst advice?

“What’s the worst that could happen?” From all my friends at home.

What do you like best about your job?

It’s a game. It’s something I love to do. I wouldn’t even call it a job for me. That, and the competitive nature of the sport.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Chinese food. I order that probably three or four times a week.

Favorite dish?

General Tso’s chicken.

Who is your celebrity crush?

Olivia Wilde or Marisa Miller.
