AP Photo/Amy SancettaHow would the sports world be different if Tom Brady had never strapped on a football helmet?Tom Brady’s father says he “would be very hesitant” to let his son play football if he had to make the decision today.
Just imagine if Brady had never played football. Many lives would have changed.
Bill Belichick – Instead of being seen as a football genius, Belichick would be a twice-failed head coach forever resigned to defensive assistant status. Unless you think Damon Huard, the third-stringer on New England’s 2001 roster, would have stepped in for an injured Drew Bledsoe and gone on to win three Super Bowls. Didn’t think so.
Montreal Expos – They would still exist. Montreal drafted Brady in the 18th round of the 1995 MLB draft and, without football pulling him to Michigan, no doubt Brady would have become a baseball superstar who packed Olympic Stadium night after night.
Washington Nationals – With the Expos making money in Montreal, the Nationals would not exist. The Expos also wouldn’t have picked first in 2009 and 2010, thanks to Brady’s winning ways, so Stephen Strasburg would play for the Mariners and Bryce Harper would be a Pittsburgh Pirate.
NHL - With superstar catcher Tom Brady dominating the Canadian sporting landscape, hockey's popularity would suffer and the NHL would not return following the 2005 lockout.
Gisele Bundchen – With Brady’s life on a different course, he never would have met the Brazilian supermodel – or actress Bridget Moynahan. However, Bundchen and Moynahan would likely have been involved in a love triangle with the quarterback who ran the AFC East in Brady’s absence: Jay Fiedler.
Derek Jeter – With Brady playing baseball, Jeter wouldn’t be the sport’s premier playboy. Jeter’s frustrations with women would cause him to hold the bat a lot tighter and swing much harder. He would not have 3,000 hits, but he would have 500 home runs, helping the Yankees stay competitive with the mighty Expos each year in the World Series.
Eli Manning – The youngest Manning would be 0-for-2 in Super Bowls without his personal punching bag around to defeat with ease.
It’s all so very obvious.
