Metal and sports don't always mix. But when they do, it involves Zakk Wylde.

OK, maybe not all the time, but at least some of the time -- such as this fall, when the virtuoso guitarist -- creator of Black Label Society and former Ozzy Osbourne wingman -- takes to the satellite airwaves during a six-week run of his sports-themed radio show, "Wylde on Sports" on SiriusXM.

The topics? Fantasy football, for one; Wylde last month participated in the SiriusXM Celebrity Fantasy Football Draft, and his rivals this year include Maurice Jones-Drew of the Jacksonville Jaguars, WWE star The Miz, comedians Artie Lange and Nick DiPaolo and former "Cheers" actor George Wendt.

But that's not it. Really, the subject will be ...

"Everything," Wylde, a New Jersey-raised New York Giants fan, told Playbook last month. "We'll talk about any topic that's coming up. Obviously, [during] football season, we'll be talking about the whole weekend, and [since] the show will be on Tuesday we'll be talking about 'Monday Night Football,' we'll recap the whole weekend."

And then there's baseball; after all, Wylde is a lifelong Yankees fan -- and last year won ESPN's "Baseball Tonight" theme song competition (see below). Also, the godfather to one of Wylde's children? Mike Piazza.

But how does he keep up with sports, what with his often-intense tour schedule? (BLS heads to Canada in mid-October, after the show's run.)

It's not hard, according to Wylde.

"All we've got to do is watch a little bit of ESPN or just check the news," he said. "Even when I'm overseas we always throw up the computer and ... keep up with the news.

"The whole time the Stanley Cup was going on, the guys were watching it on TV, Slingbox, the whole time we were over in Europe."

Not that he expects the show to feature full-on, straight sports talk. Or even close to it. Really he expects some spirited -- to put it mildly banter between himself, co-host/longtime sports radio broadcaster/brother-in-law Ken Thomson and callers. Plus, he said, he can always phone people like Piazza, Slayer's Kerry King or any number of his other friends to make this two-hour show -- debuting Sept. 4 on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio -- anything but boring.

"Between my wrestling buddies, my athlete buddies, my actor buddies or musician/rock star insane brothers over there," he said, "it's going to be a ton of comedy, I can tell you that right now.

"It's going to be 'Animal House' on sports, pretty much. ... The alcohol won't be there, but the stupidity will be flying at an all-time-high rate."
