The University of Central Florida Knights (2-1) are looking to make big news on the football field with their play, but that’s not all they're doing on their home turf.
College football has seen some crafty on-field creations — most notably Boise State’s blue turf at Bronco Stadium. But nothing proves the growth of social media in the sports world than a Twitter handle painted on the field of an FBS team.
“Our facilities crew loves this stuff," says Brian Ormiston, UCF’s associate director of athletic communications. "The UCF Twitter handle idea came about as a team effort between our external operations staff at UCF along with the facilities office.”
The Knights will be welcoming Missouri (2-2) to Orlando Saturday; as of now, @UCF_Football has close to 5,000 followers. Between the $900 spent on the on-field stencil and the nation’s second-largest enrollment (59,300 students), hopefully they’ll be catching up to Justin Bieber in no time.
