'MLB 12: The Show' predicts World Series

If Hunter Pence’s broken bat hit the same pitch three times in one swing during a game of “MLB 12: The Show,” gamers would cry foul about how unrealistic things are getting out on the virtual diamond. But when the baseball gods seem to defy the laws of physics with a real-life glitch, we get one of the most memorable Game 7 plays in National League Championship Series history (and a moment I hope they add to “MLB 13: The Show,” along with Pence’s madman-like stare and pregame sermons).
But before we get to the new details of “MLB 13,” we have one order of business left with this year’s game: predicting the winner between the Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants in the 2012 World Series.
Will the Giants actually win a game before being on the brink of elimination? Is there still bad blood between Prince Fielder and the Giants' pitching staff for his shockwave walk-off celebration back in 2009? Is Marco Scutaro really baseball’s new Mr. October, or will Justin Verlander and crew pitch him back to reality?
Sony fed the stats into the PlayStation 3 to answer some of these questions and, with the help of “MLB 12: The Show,” produced the following results (triple-hit broken-bat doubles not included):
The Giants' offense hits its groove, taking down the Tigers in six games thanks to MVP Brandon Belt. Belt goes 7-for-20 in the series, including two doubles, a home run and six RBIs. Buster Posey and Pence also come up big for the Giants, hitting a combined 11-for-39 with seven RBIs.
And while the Giants' starters get San Francisco off to fast starts, it's Sergio Romo who saves the day, pitching his way to a perfect-zero ERA and three saves to help the Giants win their second World Series title in three years.
