Olympic figure skating champion Dorothy Hamill has withdrawn from ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" because of a spinal injury.

"It could be irreparable nerve damage," Hamill said on the show, "and it would be completely unfair for me to stay in this and have any of these people go home.”

Hamill, 56, was the oldest of 12 celebrities competing on the dance-elimination show, which began last week. She feels bad mostly for her pro dance partner, Tristan MacManus.

“It’s been a wonderful ride," she said. "I wish I could stay, but I can’t do justice to the commitment."
