Comedian Rob Riggle has been tapped to host The 2012 ESPYs on July 11 at 9 p.m. ET.

Riggle is best known as a correspondent on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" 2006-08 and previously a cast member of NBC's "Saturday Night Live" 2004-05. He also has played memorable characters in recent movies including "The Hangover", "The Lorax" and "21 Jump Street."

He replaces comedian Seth Meyers, who the past two years had hosted the annual show on ESPN to honor the best in athletics.

ESPN asked Riggle what the most interesting thing about hosting the ESPYs will be:

"A couple of things: meeting all my sports heroes, people I sincerely admire and respect," he said, "and the 50-foot robot that breathes fire and can eat cars! It’s gonna be amazing!"

What?

The list of ESPYs is pretty diverse. Justin Timberlake, LeBron James, Tony Danza and Samuel L. Jackson all have hosted.
