Jasmine Waiters, who plays basketball for Notre Dame de Namur in California, couldn't sit idly by after reading all the stories about people complaining about Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas' hair and Douglas' mother having to defend her.

So Waiters penned a poem and uploaded it on You Tube.

"I was hurt when I read all of those stories," Waiters said by phone. "As a student-athlete, I know how important it is to have support and the negativity was so hurtful. This girl is 16 years old."
