Kyrie Irving talks on new 'Uncle Drew' spot

By Lynn Hoppes

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving is back once again as "Uncle Drew" for a Pepsi MAX ad.

Irving's first commercial, in June, garnered more than 15 million views.

This time, basketball Hall of Famer Bill Russell is making an appearance as Irving returns as an old basketball player fooling people on a court. (Oh, and there is Kevin Love too.)

"Working with Bill was an unbelievable experience," said Irving, whose Cavaliers open the NBA season Tuesday night against the Washington Wizards, "and one I'll never forget."

Irving, the 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year, said it isn't too hard to turn into an older player on a basketball court. Once I got into costume, Irving said, "I had almost accomplished as much as Bill has done!"

Irving did get serious when he talked about his inspiration for the character: His father.

"We used to play basketball on the street courts. Guys would think he couldn't play because he wouldn't ever score. He wanted me to work on my game," said the 20-year-old Irving, who grew up in New Jersey and went to Duke University for one year. "I would get mad at him. I wanted him to show them what he could do. Well, when he did, the crowd would go crazy."
