Playbook chased down Harvick to ask a few questions. (Guess we should have done it on video. We weren't thinking.)
How did you get involved in this project?
“I have had a long-lasting relationship with Champion, which has done a great job this year building their brand around social media. Having the opportunity to take part in a monthly #ChampionChat via Twitter and VYou question and answer session gives the fans an opportunity to communicate with me on a more personal basis.”
What is your background in social media and what do you think of it so far?
“When I first started racing in NASCAR I took pride in having an up-to-date website with an active chat room. As technology advanced from Myspace, Facebook, VYou and Twitter I have always tried to stay on the leading edge of social media. I like the fact that I have an instant connection to my fans.”
Do you ever tweet or post things from the track?
“Fans really enjoy the opportunity to see what drivers are doing around the track on any given race weekend. But to me, the bigger appeal of Twitter is that it gives the fans a glimpse of our lives away from the track as well.”
Think there will be a time where you do it from the car while driving?
“No, I don’t think you'll ever see me tweeting from my race car during a race. It doesn't set a good example for kids out there using their phones while driving.”
