Will USC be able to run the table like some people predict? We're about to find out.

About to do cartwheels in therapy today because college football starts tonight

College football is back. Not surprisingly, it was a trending topic Thursday on Twitter.

After 233 days at sea, we have sighted land. #CollegeFootball

— Cecil Hurt (@CecilHurt) Aug. 30, 2012

How long has it been? Guess that remains a matter of perspective:

I've been waiting 234 days to say this- College Football is back! Let's go!

— Kevin Negandhi (@KNegandhiESPN) Aug. 30, 2012

If you count the Senior Bowl, it's been only 215 days.

So long offseason. College football is back. #AmericasGame…

There are plenty of apt analogies that apply as college football season begins tonight with 15 games on the schedule. The Texas A&M-Louisiana Tech game has been re-scheduled for Oct. 13 due to now-Tropical Storm Isaac. The football drought officially ends with a 7 p.m. ET kickoff for five games -- including the SEC showdown between South Carolina and host Vanderbilt on ESPN.

College football has officially started!! :)

Well, almost.

Who's No. 1?

No way USC should be #1... LSU all day!!!! #GeauxTigers

— Stevan Ridley (@StevanRidley) Aug. 29, 2012

The Tigers -- along with residents across Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi -- continue to weather the ongoing downpours and heavy winds from Isaac. LSU is scheduled to host North Texas Saturday night.

God I can't wait to play.. #NT vs #LSU

All precautions have been taken:

Mike the Tiger is safe, as he is remaining in shelter #Isaac

Let the smack talk begin:

The #SEC winning its 7th consecutive National Championship starts TODAY…

College football almost here... Can't wait... How many SEC teams will be playing for the championship this year?? Haha

— Elliott Sadler (@Elliott_Sadler) Aug. 26, 2012

It's a bigger deal in some parts of the country:

Today is the first day of college football season! #thewaitisover

— Saturday Down South (@SDS) Aug. 30, 2012

But the dog days are not over just in the South:

Daisy is ready for the College Football Season!!!#rahrahrahrahrahgooooooCOUGARS

For at least this Penn State senior cornerback, the focus will shift to the field Saturday at noon when the Lions kick off at home against Ohio University:

Let's show the world. Why we are the greatest show in college football.

— Stephon Morris (@12_darKnight) Aug. 30, 2012

But even when their sons are playing in college, moms will be moms:

@purplemom21: @franklinmissy Can I get a RT for my son Will. Tomorrow is his 1st college football game as a starter .” Good luck!!:)
