Dec. 5, 2000: He never quite tracked down the man at the top, but on this day 12 years ago Karl Malone vaulted past an almost equally tall and equally talented scorer for second place on the NBA's all-time points list.

Yes, in a Utah Jazz home game against the Toronto Raptors, Malone hit a second-quarter scoop shot to move Wilt Chamberlain -- he of 31,419 career points -- down the queue. Malone would get closer to the leader, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, but in the end finished a respectable second, 38,387 to 36,928.
